The Government has done the right thing today in allowing up to 50 people to attend funerals and tangi, which will provide comfort to many in mourning, Clutha-Southland MP Hamish Walker says.
“Since the news, I have spoken with five families who were understandably very emotional and relieved they will now have the opportunity to grieve together,” Mr Walker says.
“Losing a loved one at any time is incredibly difficult, let alone during a pandemic.”
“In many cases, families have not been able to see their loved ones who have since passed for the past seven weeks due to Alert Level 3 and 4 lockdowns.”
“People are mourning and for the period of lockdown they have sacrificed proper goodbyes to help us all win our battle against Covid-19.”
“They can now grieve together, say their goodbyes to their cherished family member or friend and give them the service they deserve.”
“I’m pleased the Government has put people first in allowing up to 50 people to attend funerals.”
