Maternity services being moved back in to the permanent building at Lakes District Hospital is great news for mothers, Clutha-Southland MP Hamish Walker says.
“On speaking with the Southern District Health Board (SDHB) on the issue, I’m pleased to hear maternity services will be moved back to the permanent building at Lakes District Hospital,” Mr Walker says.
“It was completely unacceptable to have expectant and new mothers having to shower outside in a portable shower on a road.”
“While this should never have happened in the first place I thank SDHB chief executive Chris Fleming for rectifying the situation of the outside shower in Queenstown.”
“Upgrades are going to take longer than first anticipated so the SDHB has made the right move for expectant and new mothers in moving the maternity services back to the permanent building.”
“Mothers-to-be and their families can now have peace they will be cared for in an environment they will be comfortable in.”
