Today, Clutha-Southland MP Hamish Walker starts his month-long campaign of 30 reasons to thank a farmer.
“Last year was an incredibly tough one for our farming community,” Mr Walker says.
“Farmers don’t get a lot of thanks for everything they do – for feeding us, clothing us and so much more.”
“We have so many reasons to thank them, so I thought why not showcase 30 reasons why we should be.”
“When you think about it, there are so many things we should be thanking farmers for we don’t even realise.”
“We might use a lawyer every few years, a doctor once or twice a year, but we use a farmer every day, and sometimes we forget that.”
“Here in Clutha-Southland we have some of the best farmers in the country and they are constantly hounded by what they could do better.”
“So many follow best-practices and do all they can to ensure water ways and walking tracks are the best they can be for everyone else to enjoy.”
“I think it’s about time we acknowledge these efforts, and everything else our farmers do by simply reminding each other why we should be saying thanks.”
Mr Walker will post one reason daily to thank a farmer on his Facebook page www.facebook.com/HamishWalkerMP
